Don't Panic....Very Exciting NEWS!!
'Dad's Army Comes Home' is the title of a new Stage Show that W.O.S.P.S (Walmington on Sea Players) will be putting on next June. The show is open to everyone and W.O.S.P.S are now looking for actors and behind the scenes staff to make the project a community event and produce another little piece of Dad's Army history. So whether you fancy yourself as Captain Mainwaring, Jonesy, Pike or any other of the characters from this well known show or maybe you would prefer to be involved in the staging, lighting, PR, marketing or you just fancy helping out by making the tea you will be more than welcome.
The project is being coordinated by Corinne Fulford and if you would like to find out more she can be reached on 07802 701911 or alternatively you can email her at dadsarmythetford@googlemai l.com or call into the Museum..
Director of the stage project is Ian Gower who first adapted 'Dad's Army' to the stage in April 2002 and is no stranger to British Sit Coms. Having adapted and produced a second 'Dad's Army The Lost Episodes' in 2003 he went on to adapt the first ever stage versions of 'It Ain't Half Hot Mum' (2005), 'Porridge' (2006) and Hi-De-Hi! (2007) with the help of co-adapter and colleague Paul Carpenter. Ian said 'This is a wonderful opportunity to work with the people of Thetford and the surrounding area to bring Dad's Army home to Walmington-on-Sea' he went on 'having the opportunity to work where many of the original location shoots took place is a really exciting prospect as Dad's Army history is all around you'.
The week of the show at The Carnegie Rooms, Thetford running from the 15th - 19th June 2010 will include two of the most famous episodes of Dad's Army, The Deadly Attachment featuring the immortal line 'Don't tell him pike' and The Godiva Affair' where we see the platoon trying their hand at Morris dancing. The show will be linked together with segments talking about the history of Dad's Army in Thetford and the surrounding area.
